Sylvana Giselle Vera Arriaga
I am a final-semester undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Oceanology at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) in Ensenada, Mexico. I was born in Querétaro, and although I grew up far from the sea, I have been fascinated by the ocean since childhood, especially by the opportunity to explore what lies beneath the surface and understand the life that inhabits it. Over time, this curiosity grew into a passion and a desire to contribute to the conservation of marine ecosystems.
I am currently developing an undergraduate research project for my thesis that uses artificial intelligence to detect sea urchins and contribute to the monitoring and conservation of kelp forests. I am excited about combining science and technology to better understand the ocean and develop tools that can help protect it.
In my free time, I love spending time at the beach, especially swimming, and I really enjoy scuba diving. I also enjoy playing sports and learning to play different musical instruments. I love learning new things, exploring, and discovering the world both in and out of the water.
