Martha Elena Betancourt Aguirre
Currently, in addition to my studies, I work at FIDEMAR, a trust dedicated to tuna fisheries and dolphin protection, where I analyze data from tuna fisheries in Mexico.
I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy playing tennis, painting (I'm a beginner in watercolors), going on long walks, and visiting the ocean whenever I get the chance.
My research focuses on studying Pacific bluefin tuna as a socio-ecological system, integrating the interactions between the species, the environment, and the communities that depend on it. The project aims to characterize the main components of this system, analyze how climate change may affect the species' dynamics and distribution, and assess its resilience to future environmental changes.
I am driven by a strong interest in understanding marine systems and how multiple stressors, including human impacts, interact and influence marine life at different levels, from individuals to entire ecosystems. My goal is to contribute to conservation, scientific advancement, and positive change from a fisheries perspective.
